Tejas Behavioral Health Services, Inc. (Tejas) is an independent managed care company that provides specialized and accessible behavioral health care services for children and adults in Texas through a network of behavioral health providers.

Tejas provides behavioral health services for governmental programs, including children enrolled in Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). It delivers affordable, effective care to best serve the interests of its members.

Tejas also has built and maintained a delivery system designed to meet the unique needs of children with serious emotional disturbances and their families through promoting quality processes. Tejas supports the unique needs of client organizations with traditional managed care, integrated behavioral health care services, as well as wellness and prevention initiatives. It is committed to demonstrating agility in a competitive health care/business environment.

History

In 2000, Tejas was founded by a unique joint-venture  between Austin Travis County Integral Care, Capital Area Behavioral Health and Cenpatico (previously IMH/IMHS) as a Texas Uniform Unincorporated Nonprofit Association (TUUNA) under state law. Tejas officially became a behavioral health organization certified by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners pursuant to Section 162 of the Medical Practice Act. Tejas will soon be a single-member owned, risk-bearing entity by Austin Travis County Integral Care.
